The Exuma Cays, known as the out islands of The Bahamas, are a 100-mile long necklace of small off-the-beaten track islands, lying about 50 miles south and east of Nassau. In fact, there is an island for every day of the year - 365 of them. The crystalline waters are among the most beautiful in the world, shimmering a rainbow of aqua, teal, emerald, indigo and sapphire. The local people are warm and welcoming.

When we first cruised here, we had spent years and years in the Caribbean so we expected more of the same. How wrong we were! Although you can access the Exumas by a 40 minute flight from the U.S., they feel miles away. You can be the first one to make footprints in the sand every day. Often, your yacht is the only one in the anchorage. The coral reefs are teeming with a kaleidoscope of fish. The sport fishing is world class, and the beaches are pristine and inviting. They are a snorkeler’s and diver’s paradise.

Numerous celebrities have vacation hideaways here - Johnny Depp, country singers Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, and David Copperfield whose Musha Cay is nothing short of magical... and available for rent. This is a great destination for a celebrity or high profile person who doesn't want to be seen or heard. And our discreet captains and crews are privileged to sign confidentiality agreements.

Sample Mega Yacht Charter Itinerary in the Bahamas

Day One: Arrival in Nassau, New Providence Island (a 40-minute flight from Miami; 3 hours from New York) : Your yacht charter crew will greet you at the airport and escort you to the mega yacht which will be docked at the marina of your choice. We highly recommend the Atlantis Resort Marina where you can take in all of its delights, especially if you have children. With about 50,000 sea creatures, Atlantis boasts the largest marine habitat in the world, second only to Mother Nature. Its labyrinth of underwater glass tunnels through the aquarium is not to be missed. You can have a close encounter with dolphins, throttle up the adrenaline on their steep waterslides, float in a tube on the lazy lagoon, shop ‘til you drop, or tee off at the nearby golf course. Your crew will serve you an exquisite dinner under the stars. After dinner, get snazzied up and take a chance at the casino or nightclub. Play all night or come back “home” to your yacht for a glass of bubbly in the Jacuzzi. For those who prefer a quieter beginning, the yacht can dock near the airport and you can set sail for the Exumas right away.

Day Two: Ship Channel Cay, Allen’s Cay and Highbourne Cay: At first light, we’ll head out across the Bahama Banks for about a 5-hour cruise to our first stop. The banks are a unique place with the gin clear waters rarely exceeding 20 feet for the entire crossing . We’ll anchor in a secluded bay and use either the wave runners or the yacht’s towed tender to explore. Allen’s Cay is home to hundreds of “Bahamian Dragon Iguanas” some up to 5 feet in length. After a visit with these unique locals, you can enjoy the yachts toys - kayaks, skis, tubes, stand-up paddle boards, underwater scooters

Day Three: Norman’s Cay/Shroud Cay: Norman’s has long been a favorite hideaway for pirates and smugglers. Up until 1983 the entire island was ruled by the armed thugs of the infamous Carlos Lehder Drug Cartel. Many of the ruins of this once massive operation can still be seen around the island today. From half submerged aircraft in the harbor to the palatial private clubs there is plenty of intriguing exploration to be done here. And of course, it’s worth a quick stop at McDuff’s, the local watering hole. Shroud Cay is a stunning overnight anchorage with perhaps one of the most spectacular beaches in the Exumas… although there are so many drop dead gorgeous beaches, it’s hard to pick a favorite. The estuary of tidal streams, mangroves, and salt ponds that run through the island host a bevy of birds, fish, and shellfish. Exploring these by kayak or waverunner gets you upclose and personal. The eastern shore of this uninhabited Cay hosts miles of sugar sand beaches with a maze of reefs and coral gardens just off shore. A perfect spot for a beach barbecue feast, and maybe some fireworks.

Day Four: Staniel Cay is a lively island where sailors from around the world belly up to the bar at the Staniel Cay Yacht Club, trading sea tales into the wee hours. The village is quaint and welcoming. The snorkeling at Thunderball Grotto is a must... Sean Connery took the plunge here for scenes in two James Bond films – Thunderball and Never Say Never; the mermaid film Splash also did some shooting here. The deep sea and bone fishing here is excellent, and local bonefish guides are available. A side trip to visit the swimming pigs is also a must. These are not wild pigs or sea pigs… just plain old barnyard pigs have learned that yachts come bearing gifts of bread, hot dogs (beef, I hope?) lettuce, leftovers and an occasional Kalik – that’s the local Bahamian beer. Day Five: Warderick Wells: This popular cay is in the heart of the Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park, a land and marine sanctuary with an awesome display of water colors and sand banks. Ashore are 4 miles of walking trails through the park with rare plants, caves, wells and the ruins of an old Loyalist plantation. Local legend says that a shipload of missionaries perished in a wreck here, and the locals swear that a ghostly chorus can be heard on moonlit nights. Watch out – they may serenade you as you dine under the stars. For the adventurous, a plunge at Danger Reef to snorkel or scuba with some reef sharks and eagle rays is an adrenaline rush. For the feint of heart, just watching them from the surface is a thrill.

Day Seven: Cambridge Cay/Compass Cay: Another piece of yachting paradise in the Exumas. We’ll anchor off of Cambridge Cay and use the yacht’s tender to visit some local attractions. We’ll snorkel the Rocky Dundas, a cathedral cave with stalactites and stalagmites resembling ancient gods. Then we’re off to Compass Cay Marina with its pod of resident nurse sharks playing a docile game of “pigpile” under the dock… they love to swim with you. It will get your heart pumping , and you’ll have earned that rum punch at the bar.
A short walk brings you to an exquisite beach.

Day Seven: Leisurely Cruise to Nassau, making some stops at some islands along the way or take the towed tender for a sportfishing, spearfishing, or scuba expedition while your chartered yacht moves north. Anchor back at Albany Marina, the newest upscale marina on New Providence Island. Albany has been designed for superb experiences for all ages and pursuits - an 18-hole championship golf course designed by Ernie Els, a full-service spa and fitness center, a family water park, kids' clubhouse, and restaurants and bars.

Now if you're one of those Type A's... gotta be on the move groups, you can pick up the pace and cruise to the nearby islands of Eleuthera, Little San Salvadore, and Cat Island.
