Why Is a Charter Yacht Called a “She”?
Posted by Trish Cronan | Under Yacht Charter, Yacht Vacations Monday Jul 30, 2012
Actually, it is not just charter yachts – it’s any yacht, boat, ship, scow, barge, tanker, tug, freighter, or canoe. I could ask Wikipedia, but I have a fleet of charter yacht crews who are used to spinning all kinds of yarns week after week. For this answer, my source is the veteran crew, Randy and Shelly Tucker on the luxury charter yacht, Three Moons, which charters in the BVI and USVI. Here’s what they have to say: “A yacht is called a “she” because there is always a great deal of bustle around her; there is usually a gang of men about, she has a waist and stays… She shows her topsides, hides her bottom and when coming into port, always heads for the Read more…
Dog Friendly Motor Yacht Charter – Special Rate in Florida & Bahamas
Posted by Trish Cronan | Under Motor Yacht Charter, Yacht Charter Discount Friday Jul 27, 2012
It’s not often that I get asked if a charter guest can bring along the pooch on a luxury yacht charter. In fact, it is difficult, if not impossible, to do in most locations due to long quarantine periods. And frankly, most yacht owners are not too keen on having Fido romp across the multi-million dollar carpet or wag its tail around the Baccarat crystal. So it took me by surprise when Zazu announced that “small dogs are welcome.” My 107 pound golden retriever would not qualify, but your Shih tzu or toy poodle just might. Zazu is currently available in Florida and the Bahamas so if you are a U.S. or Canadian citizen, it’s easy to bring the pup along with you to Florida. Read more…

Catamaran charter design just keeps getting better and better… upper decks, walk-around berths, and separate shower stalls. The newest charter catamaran on the BVI waterfront this fall is the 2011 56′ Lagoon, “Copper Penny.” After two seasons of charter guest accolades on the charter catamaran Quest, veteran crew Cameron and Rhonda Warren have taken the helm of this bright and airy cat. Just take a look at this spacious cabin. Everything aboard is brand new – a 14’ AB Tender with 60hp engine, dive gear with weight integrated BCDs, and a full arsenal of toys for the active vacationer. And here’s a first for a BVI catamaran charter – a 3D TV. But if you are like most charter guests, you’re more likely to tune Read more…
Carbon Offset in the Galapagos Islands
Posted by Trish Cronan | Under Going Green on Yachts Monday Jul 2, 2012
The Galapagos Islands are near and dear to my heart. I had the privilege of escaping on a week long luxury yacht charter in the Galapagos about a decade ago, and the wonder of the wildlife on these islands still moves me deeply. Snorkeling with sea lions and penguins, diving with hammerheads, giggling with the swimming lizards, watching the giant land tortoises slow motion mating rituals. Viewing birds and sea creatures that only exist in this one place on earth. No wonder Darwin was so enamored of this magical place. The extreme ecological sensitivity of these islands is challenging, and the Ecuadorian government is proactive in minimizing the impact of its eco-tourism industry. They carefully control the number of yachts in an anchorage and govern Read more…
