BVI Catamaran Charters – Going Green on Greenboat 1

Wednesday Jun 12, 2013 BVI Catamaran Charter - Eco Friendly

Now this new BVI catamaran charter yacht is right up my alley.  I’ve been touting charter yachts going green for a few years now, and this “just launched”  54′ Nautitech charter catamaran combines  luxurious accommodations, high performance sailing, and leading edge green technology for the smallest carbon footprint possible.  The name says it all – Greenboat I.  I hope that the “I” means that there are more green catamaran charters coming our way. With the state of the art lithium-ion battery, LED lighting, wind generator, many solar panels, and ultra-silent high output generator, the hush of dawn can be heard even if the AC is running. Three guest queen suites each fully air-conditioned with private bath/electric toilet/shower stall and tablet controlled TV, music and movies. Read more…

Yacht Charter Discount on BVI Catamaran Charter

Monday Mar 11, 2013 Extasea.Fish

$2,000 off  a Grenadines Yacht Charter or BVI Yacht Charter Ex-tasea – the name says it all – there’s a high fun quotient on this 47′ catamaran charter…. your stress will evaporate from the moment you step aboard. The cabins:  Three queen cabins with bath en suite
Ondeck: The cockpit, which is where most of the time is spent on board, is shaded by a hard top bimini with side awnings ensuring comfort and protection come rain or shine. It features a large dining table with seating for eight plus a fridge for help-yourself drinks. My favorite place to bask onboard is in one of those cushy bean bags. The two “sugar scoop” swim platforms make boarding a snap. The forward deck with comfy trampolines Read more…

Carbon Offset in the Galapagos Islands

Monday Jul 2, 2012 Galapagos Yacht Charter

The Galapagos Islands are near and dear to my heart.  I had the privilege of escaping on a week long luxury yacht charter in the Galapagos about a decade ago, and the wonder of the wildlife on these islands still moves me deeply.  Snorkeling with sea lions and penguins, diving with hammerheads, giggling with the swimming lizards, watching the giant land tortoises slow motion mating rituals.  Viewing birds and sea creatures that only exist in this one place on earth.  No wonder Darwin was so enamored of this magical place. The extreme ecological sensitivity of these islands is challenging, and the Ecuadorian government is proactive in minimizing the impact of its eco-tourism industry. They carefully control the number of yachts in an anchorage and govern Read more…

Going Green on BVI Charter Yachts

Tuesday Jun 19, 2012 Eco-friendly BVI Yacht Charter

Going Green grass roots efforts are well underway in the British Virgin Islands.  Like many Caribbean islands, the BVI faces many environmental challenges with one of the largest issues being trash and no means of recycling.  The environmental adage of “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” is by necessity shortened to “Reduce and ReUse”. The yacht charter industry through the efforts of the Charter Yacht Society of the BVI (CYS) and Charter Yacht Brokers’ Association International (CYBA) have tackled the problem by reducing plastic water bottle usage, purchasing earth friendly paper products, using eco-friendly products, and buying local when possible. Many BVI charter yachts with onboard water makers, are able to produce their own filtered drinking water, thereby cutting down on the need to purchase those dreaded water Read more…

Mega Yacht Charters Can Offset Their Carbon Footprint

Wednesday Jun 13, 2012 Motor Yacht Quid Pro Quo Carbon Offset

Mega Yachts are not known for their conservative consumption of fuel, food, or the finer things in life.  If you want to charter a yacht with minimal carbon footprint, then charter a sailing yacht or a catamaran.  But if you really want that mega yacht or super yacht and are concerned about your impact on the environment, there’s good news on the shoreline. Yacht Carbon Offset  offers a simple solution, and it is easy to set up whether you are a yacht owner or a yacht charterer.  For every ton of CO2 emitted by a yacht’s engines, they will offset this with a ton of CO2 emissions saved elsewhere in the world. “The savings are made through independently approved projects such as renewable energy (which Read more…

Tomorrow, June 8, 2012, is World Oceans Day

Thursday Jun 7, 2012 Dolphin on World Oceans Day

Kiss a fish, hug a dolphin, clean a beach, say no to plastic, or check out an event in your local area.  And if you’re already booked, you can take a few moments to reflect on what our oceans mean to you.  Maybe they are the source of your livelihood as they are to me.  Or perhaps your source of inspiration, relaxation, exhilaration – they are all of those for me as well. What small steps can you take in your everyday life to give back to the ocean, to become its caretaker?  It could be as simple as not using plastic bags, buying sustainable fish, or changing to energy efficient light bulbs. One of the goal’s of World Oceans Day is to get individuals Read more…

Greek Catamaran Yacht Charter – Late Season Discount on Nemo

Thursday Jul 28, 2011 Mykonos Greece Yacht Charter

September is a glorious month for a yacht charter in Greece – the crowds have vanished, the waters are still warm, the ouzo is still flowing, and Nemo, a 46′ catamaran, is offering a yacht charter deal that should have you booking the next flight out.  I visited with the Italian owners/crew in Antigua last December, and although they were dwarfed by the dozens of mega yachts docked around them, their charm made them one of the more memorable crews.  Perhaps the homemade pizza had a bit to do with it.  Or the fact that their love of the sea has transformed Nemo into an eco-friendly yacht.  Sample Greece Yacht Charter Itinerary . Andrea, the skipper,  will design a customized itinerary for you.  He is Read more…

Going Green Yacht Charters

Friday Jun 17, 2011 BVI Charter Yacht Show Eco Friendly

At the 2010 BVI Charter Yacht Show, a few of my charter broker buddies and I decided to ask all of the yacht charter crews what they were doing to make a vacation on their charter yacht more eco-friendly.  We were forming a Going Green committee in CYBA – the Charter Yacht Brokers Association International, and we wanted to see what was already being done so that we could create our environmental goals for the year. What was present in the majority of the conversations was a deep passion for preserving the beauty of the ocean.  It’s not just our livelihood, but something that nurtures us, intrigues us, humbles us.  Beyond that, I was so impressed by the myriad of efforts that were already underway Read more…

Going Green on Luxury Charter Yachts

Thursday Jun 16, 2011 Bottled Water on Luxury Yacht Charters

Going Green on luxury charter yachts has been on my mind a lot lately.  As Chairperson of CYBA’s (Charter Yacht Brokers Association International) Going Green committee, we have taken on the initiative to reduce plastic water bottle use aboard charter yachts worldwide.  It’s sort of like the “Drink Tap Water” movement on land. The majority of worldwide luxury charter yachts, both power and sail, produce their own water by desalinating ocean water.  Most can take it a step further to filter it, test it, chill it, and serve it in re-usable stainless steel water bottles. Why Is This So Important? We sail in some of the most pristine waters of the world and visit islands that often do not have the infrastructure or the economic Read more…
