What’s a Sleepaboard? You arrive on the island the day before you charter starts. Instead of schlepping to a hotel, you proceed directly to your yacht and board any time from 4:00 p.m. on. You will enjoy a welcome aboard cocktail and some canapes, and then you will set off on your own for a dinner ashore at your own expense. You will sleep aboard the yacht that evening (either at a dock or at anchor) and get settled in. The crew will serve a continental breakfast the next morning.
Your departure time the next day is still at noon, and it is at the crew’s discretion to leave sooner or not. The sleepaboard is a convenience to you, but you’ll need to keep in mind that the crew may be running around to attend to a few last minute details to be 100% ready for your charter.
When should you consider a sleepaboard? If your flight arrives late in the day (let’s say 4:00 p.m. or later which means that you will not get to the yacht until 5: 30 or 6:00 p.m), you will probably have to spend that first night at the dock anyway. So rather than paying full fare for that day, this particular sleepaboard special saves you a lot of money.
When is a sleepaboard not a good idea? If you arrive on island by 2:00 or 3:00 p.m., you can make it to the yacht to set sail that day. Sure, you will lose a few hours of charter that you paid for, but we think that it’s more than worth it to get off the dock, anchor in a beautiful bay, enjoy a sumptuous meal prepared by your chef, and let the vacation begin!
