A week (7 nights aboard) is an ideal amount of time for savoring the pleasures of a yachting vacation. Our minimum getaway is 3 nights, and of course, you can go for as long as you want… how about a month?
The sooner, the better. The yachts with proven track records get booked first so if you want your first choice, book it as soon as you can. Christmas, New Year’s and Spring Break weeks often book up a year in advance. Most people book about 6 to 8 months in advance. But if you’re one of those “wait until the snow falls” folks, give us a call for last minute availability
Absolutely yes! The chef tailors the menu to your personal preferences and requests. They are experienced in working with all types of diets - vegetarian, South Beach, diabetic, vegan, low-fat, gluten-free, etc. Just tell us what you need.
THE BEST; you;re sailing in the Magic Kingdom. Family time on a yacht is a time of bonding, sharing, spirited fun, and adventure. Our crews will offer special kids menus and activities - Pirates of the Caribbean Day, treasure hunts, fishing derbies, Follow the Leader Sunrise adventures, stargazing, beach barbecues, guided hikes and snorkels, and more. And, if you have picky eaters, our chefs can create special kids menus.
This varies throughout the world. In the Caribbean, the rates are fairly consistent year-round. In the Mediterranean, July and August are peak months and more expensive with the other months often being 10-15% less.
Seasickness is rarely a problem when you choose a destination that matches your seaworthiness. For example, in the Virgin Islands or Croatia, you’ll be sailing on a large, stable yacht in calm, protected waters. We sail for only a few hours at a time, never out of sight of land, and then we anchor in sheltered bays where the yachts are virtually motionless. But if you are susceptible to motion sickness and truly worried about a greenish tint in the gills, consult your physician or pharmacist about preventive medications.
Absolutely! Our captains welcome you to join in and willingly teach you the ropes. Some of our captains are certified sailing instructors/yacht charter guides and can offer you a very structured course if that’s what you want.
Most of our yachts are equipped with cellular or satellite communications as well as having Wifi onboard. Your Blackberry or Iphone will roam in most of our locations. Be sure to let us know what you need before you book a yacht. All communications costs are additional to the charter price.
If you’re an avid diver, you’ll want to request a yacht that offers scuba and has either a divemaster or instructor aboard as well as all of the gear. If you just want to dive once or twice, then we can set up a rendezvous dive boat to pick you up at your yacht and take you diving.
We have a select number of yachts with scuba instructors aboard. Because of the hours of “classroom” time required to become certified, we recommend that you do the coursework at home. You can then complete the diving part of the course during your vacation.
This varies with charter location. In the Bahamas , you do not need one. In most European countries, you do, and many of our superyachts are “RYA Training Centers” which means they can license you right onboard.
Here’s what one of our client’s said, “I was afraid that I would feel claustrophobic on a boat, even trapped. It was exactly the opposite...I have never felt so much space or freedom.” The yachts themselves are spacious and luxurious. Since we’re only sailing for a few hours each day, you have plenty of opportunity to get off the yacht and explore.
We’ve had people aboard who never got wet! What they told us was they appreciated the escape...the opportunity to relax on a luxurious floating resort and see islands that can only be accessed by yachts of this size. They enjoyed the camaraderie, the meals and the never ending pampering. Instead of in the water activities, they went off exploring the islands and shopping. We’ve had non-swimmers learn to swim and snorkel because of the supportive and enthusiastic nature of the crew.
Life aboard is very casual so you’ll need less than you think. After you book, we send you a very detailed yacht charter guide and brochure on the yachting life – hints on what to bring, how to pack, what to expect, etc.
Smoking is allowed on the exterior of most yachts. For safety and comfort reasons, smoking is not allowed in the interior of the yachts. Some of our yachts are non-smoking yachts, so browse through our yacht charter guide thoroughly to know more about options onboard.
This varies with yacht type and destination. The customary gratuity for a crewed catamaran in the Caribbean is 15-20% of the charter fee. On a motor yacht in the Mediterranean, it is is 10-15%. Your Ocean Getaways yacht charter guide & experts will advise you.
