Yacht Haven Grande Marina - the Best Marina in St. Thomas and the Caribbean
The best marina in St. Thomas, Yacht Haven Grande Marina (YHG), is the starting point for most of Ocean Getaways yacht charters in the U.S. and British Virgin Islands. We have always regarded it as a topnotch marina and an upscale and welcoming setting for a client’s first day in paradise. Recently, they were awarded the Gold Anchor “Platinum’ Level accreditation from The Yacht Harbour Association (TYHA). THYA is a longstanding and prestigious marina rating system, and this award is their highest possible accreditation. Yacht Haven Grande is the only marina in all of North America to be granted this status. In fact, there are only four marinas in the world with this rating. So I guess we should change our title form the "Best Marina in St. Thomas" to the one of the four best marinas in the world.
The fact that a Caribbean marina can surpass all of its stateside counterparts is an extraordinary achievement. The award was especially meaningful as it came only two years after St. Thomas witnessed two Category 5 Hurricanes within a month’s time in the fall of 2017. Only two months after these storms, the marina's staff demonstrated their resilience by hosting the annual VIPCA Charter Yacht Show with a fleet of 60 yachts as well as being fully operational within a very short time.
Located in a corner of the scenic Charlotte Amalie Harbor, Yacht Haven Grande Marina plays host to some of the largest superyachts in the world (up to 600’) as well as sport fishing vessels, catamarans and sailing yachts. It serves as the port of embarkation for many of Ocean Getaways’ yachting incentive groups. Most recently a fleet of 14 catamarans were docked here to welcome an automotive group of 80 winners who were embarking on a 6-night sailing adventure in the BVI.
What make this marina so special? Customer service is the backbone of its winning formula. Beyond that, it is all about location and ambiance. YHG is only 15 minutes from the airport, and depending upon the speed of the yacht, only a couple of hours by sea from the BVI. The marina lies within a complex of restaurants and boutiques that reflect the historical architecture of the downtown area. Guests have access to all of the marina's facilities including a lagoon style swimming pool and business center. Of course, with a yacht under charter, you will already have business facilities onboard as well as the wide blue ocean as your own private pool. Downtown Charlotte Amalie with its world renowned duty free shopping is an easy walk. If you prefer a more relaxed setting, you will find many excellent restaurants and boutiques right within he Yacht Haven Grande compound. Everything from Bad Ass Coffee to Urban Eats (sounds like an oxymoron in the Caribbean).
Another feature of the marina is security. The docks are only connected to land by two walkways that are locked 24/7 and under surveillance.
On-site Customs which is by appointment only makes it hugely convenient at the end of your charter. You step off your yacht, take a golf cart (or walk) to the Customs Office, and then swiftly be on your way to the airport.
